INTRODUCTION: This course is an introduction to webpage development techniques. Topics in this course include techniques and strategies for creating good websites. Upon completion, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the topics through webpage development projects and appropriate tests.

Course Description:

This course focuses on planning, designing, developing, managing, and evaluating web resources. Issues such as web accessibility, website management, and copyright will also be discussed.  This course covers website development using the two of three methods that have been used since web design first began: hand-coding HTML using a text editor and building Web pages using a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver. We will cover design principles, Cascading Style Sheets, server-side vs. client-side technologies, web browsers, and web servers. We will conclude the course with a brief overview of the future of Web development: XHTML.

Prerequisites / Co requisites CIS146

This course is required for the AS Computer Information Systems program, AAS Computer Information Options I, II, and III. Students should consult the College Catalog for other courses required in this program.major. For specific information on transferability of this course, please contact the Institution you plan to transfer.

Objectives:

At the completion of this course, the student will be able to understand and explain the following:

  • Use development environment - text editors, browsers & servers.
  • Use Design elements - standard interface elements
  • Use and understand how to evaluate a web site
  • Use storyboarding in web site planning
  • Understand web hosting, FTP, and domain registration
  • Understand careers include web programmer/developer, content developer, graphic designer, web architect, webmaster and web editor
  • Use a specified markup language to develop a Web page containing basic HTML tags.
  • Create a Web page that includes various types of hyperlinks.
  • Design a Web page that incorporates specified colors and graphics.
  • Design a Web page that incorporates tables, frames, forms, CSS (cascading style sheets), and JavaScript.
